Topography, vegetation and weather patterns make living with fire a part of life in the tri-county area of south-central Montana.  Tri-County Firesafe Working Group’s mission is to engage property owners on how to co-exist with and survive wildfire.

Pre-Treatment

The possibility of wildfire increases as the forest vegetation becomes more continuous and dense.

Treatment

To reduce fire intensity, adequate spacing needs to be created in the vegetation. The recommended practice is to remove and “break up” vegetation to provide separation between trees and vegetation layers

Post-Treatment

If the vegetation in the area is properly modified and maintained, a wildfire can be confined to the ground.
